At the last jury meeting of the NRW start-up grant on Wednesday, 14 December 2022, the Leverkusen start-up FELSENFEST impressed the jury and will receive funding and support for twelve months: €1,000 per month, coaching from the local network and mentoring from experienced companies.
Niklas Binkowski and Christopher König have set their sights on nothing less than a revolution in bouldering clothing with their start-up FELSENFEST. The brand stands for fighting spirit, quality and locality. It aims to offer its athletes optimised clothing and accessories tailored to indoor sports to help them push the boundaries on the wall.
With more than 1 million indoor climbers, they are the first brand for indoor climbing in German-speaking countries. By specialising purely in the indoor sector, they clearly set themselves apart from outdoor brands.
The first product will be the perfect bouldering trousers, for which a prototype already exists. The functions of these trousers are specially tailored to the conditions of the athletes and their needs. FELSENFEST is particularly characterised by the extremely abrasion-resistant, yet elastic and breathable fabric used for the trousers.
"We opted for both a fabric and a manufacturing producer in Poland in order to keep as close an eye as possible on the processes and at the same time prioritise the highest European standards. At the same time, this gives us incredibly short transport routes and a low carbon footprint. " says Niklas Binkowski, founder and scholarship holder.
"We also founded Kletterkompass, the first digital gym comparison website in Germany. We mainly test bouldering gyms here and have already worked together with the Techniker Boulder Bundesliga. Our next goal is to create the first community ranking for climbing and bouldering gyms in Germany. We want to find Germany's best gyms and at the same time involve the community even better and bind them to us."
